Hopkins Bulks Up Team For Tarver

Former undisputed middleweight champion Bernard Hopkins announced earlier today, on the eve of a four city media tour with Antonio Tarver to promote their June 10th light heavyweight title fight in Atlantic City on HBO Pay-Per-View, that he has hired renowned fitness guru Mackie Shilstone to help him prepare for the 175 pound contest, which is two weight divisions and 15 pounds heavier than Hopkins' 160 pound middleweight divison. i think fighting at 175 will be alot more comfortable for hopkins, he could go 12 rounds easy at 160 and i think he can with his style at 175, and besides does he really need to weigh 175 cant u come in at 170-171 min for LHW?

Technically he can come in weighing 160 versus Tarver. There is only a ceiling that you need to weigh under (unless of course you are nowhere near the size of your opponent in which case the fight would not have been sanctioned to begin with) and no "minimum weight". However, he wants to be around Tarver's size so that he would be moved around in the clinches.

saw both of them at the espn show today. tarver looks a little bigger then usual and talked about having to put on weight for the rocky movie so i think it will benefit hopkins to bulk up. if tarver goes in there looking for the knockout, which i dont think he will, hopkins should be able to out box him. that being said i still wont pay for this fight.

It's good to see that he'll do anything he has to do to give himself a better chance of beating Tarver.

Good to see Bernard's doing everything he can to prepare for this fight. He's been fighting at Middleweight so long that he'll have to get used to the weight adjustment.

Just what boxing needs, a couple of old guys fighting on PPV.

I'm glad Nard and Tarver are finaling capitalizing on their "standings". Nothing like a 41 year old and a 37 year old getting it on while young contenders flail about like fish out of water.

Never realized there was such a demand for these two to fight. Man, Tarver's really putting his work in. Between Johnson II, Jones III, and Rocky VI, I'm surprised he had time for this snooze-fest to be. What're they gonna call it? Geezers at Caesars II??

tarver had to weight atleast 200 pounds for the rocky movie so he can look like a real heaveyweight. hopkins you can see alreayd that he put some weight on. he needs to put it on now than turn it into muscle. hopkins is in great shape. he was going to fight rjj at 175 so he prolly has been working towards 175 for awhile now. he was training for roy before the fight was called off. but i think with hopkins style he is going to beat tarver. hop holds back and than exploids. you see what tarver does when someone comes at him he huddles up. he wont be able to defend himself over hopkins when he explodes.

Bernard Hopkins could be 100 years old and he'd still be entertaining to watch from a technical standpoint..
