Former champion Khabib Allakhverdiev (19-1, 9KOs) is scheduled to return on a date in April, as a welterweight, according to his manager Vladimir Hryunov. Khabib has been out of the ring since last April's twelve round decision loss to Jessie Vargas at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Some at ringside felt Khabib had done more than enough to win that contest.

Hryunov has been in contact with promoter Bob Arum of Top Rank, pitching the idea of a potential fight between Khabib and fellow former champion Brandon Rios, who also now competes as a welterweight.
