Comments Thread For: Jayson Velez Jumps From Sanchez To Freddie Roach

BoxingScene.com was advised by trainer Freddie Roach that he now trains undefeated featherweight Jayson Velez (22-0-1, 16KOs) of Puerto Rico. Velez is co-promoted by Miguel Cotto Promotions and Golden Boy Promotions. Cotto is also trained by Roach. Velez was previously trained Abel Sanchez, who trains middleweight destroyer Gennady Golovkin among others.

I like Jayson Velez. He didn't look to good under Sanchez. IDK if that's Sanchez fault but I do think Roach will be a great fit for Velez.

Velez was a boxer-puncher with accent on puncher prior to the title fight.
It looked like Sanchez tried turning him into a defensive counter puncher and he was caught between styles. It looked like he was thinking too much rather than reacting. He shook the champion late and If he had fought in his earlier style against Gradovich from the start he might have estopped him. I think the move to Freddie is a wise one that will see him return to his earlier form with better adjustments.
