  • Comments Thread For: Arum, De La Hoya To Meet on Future Business

Later today, Top Rank's CEO Bob Arum is planning to meet with Golden Boy President Oscar De La Hoya to discuss future co-promotions.

In early 2014, De La Hoya reached out to Arum to end the 'Cold War' - the nickname given by reporters when referencing a period of several years where the two companies refused to do business with each other.

His "promoters can talk but it's the fighters that do the fighting" quote convinces me that he plans on doing as little business as possible with Golden Boy. Arum is a f'ing snake.

Golden Boy has very few notable fighters left

      Cold War is still around

Too little too late. Oscar's roster is diminished. Canelo/Cotto is the only notable Top Rank/GBP megafight that can be made right now. I guess Crawford/Bradley/Mikey vs. Matthysse will be a possibility at some point down the road as well.

Wonder if a possible merger is in the works.

I thought that's what they've been doing the past year or so and still no meaningful fight from the two. TOO LATE

I bet Bob's like yes and rubbing his hands all evil like. He probably can't wait to take advantage. This is like a kid in a candy store for him.

"They have got no background in boxing Arum, actually 79,said Tuesday of the HBO matchmakers Golden Boy Promotions advises. They rely on Oscar whos a dummy. Oscar is*one of the ******est guys I have ever met. I am just saying what it is. The guy is really not smart. Forget just not smart. He is not just even average.*

I remember when we were bringing him up, we would have to write the whole script for him. Then you give him the script and he is great, as long as you keep him on the script. To have an original thought in his head."

Oscar: you promise not to screw me over Bob
Bob: Of course I promise Oscar

I told you this would happen. They have been talking about putting together cards for two years now and nothing. Not one superstar fight has come of it because they are left with a stable of unknowns and guys who don't have nearly the following of what Haymons stable has. Broner, and Garcia are just as well known as Canelo is and Garcia if he keeps winning can easily pass him up not to mention Broner who is a walking headline himself. Haymon also gets Khan coming up here soon. Golden Boy will have to merge with Top Rank.
