His ego will not allow him to compete in a weight class where he is not considered the best. Thus he created the Caneloweight. 155 lbs.

Disrespectful indeed, but he hasn't had a fight worth making the weight for since Mayweather.

Obviously he struggles to make the weight of 154, so why you gonna kill yourself to make it when your throwing cash at guys like Lara and Kirkland who yes, are good fighters but are not in any position to make him come down to 154. Canelo uses the leverage because he's the one who brings in the money and the other guys are jumping at a shot to make that money. So it's easy for him to say **** it, we're fighting at 155.

But tbh, look who he's used the weight against. Angulo, who's a middle weight now, Lara who is a big JMW, and now Kirkland who's also a big JMW.

I agree it's disrespectful but he's not exactly dragging WWs up to 155, nor is he dragging superstars up or down to 155.

I haven't heard anyone but NSB complain about it.

It seems if he was really struggling to make 154lbs, that 155lbs wouldn't make that much of a difference. He did say he only recognizes Floyd as the champion at 154 and refuses to fight for any of the other belts there.

Exactly, it's not like hes robbing champions of their belts from 154, at 155. He's not even fighting those guys. He'd beat then anyways. He WAS however trying to fight Cotto at his little special weight somewhere North of 154, South of 160.

Either because he doesn't want to try and make that extra lb or he really can't.

In any case he should move up because his FN weights suggest its not easy for him to get into the 150s but he is a draw in most cases and calls the shots but if he did go up even once there would be demand for fights against top 160lbers.

Canelo's explanation for fighting Lara at 155.

                Still don't understand the logic...

Cotto weighed 155lbs when he fought Martinez. I would think Cotto would be the one who would want to keep their fight at 155 and Alvarez would want it at 160.

Lara was probably all for it, he got to keep his title. And it was alot better deal for him than when Lara fought Angulo and Richard Schaeffer told Lara he wasn't allowed to weigh more than 165lbs on fight day and then Angulo came in at 175.
