Comments Thread For: Donnie Nietes is Ordered To Face Francisco Rodriguez

While WBO light flyweight champion Donnie “Ahas” Nietes was preparing for his voluntary title defense against Mexico’s Luis Ceja which the WBO had been informed about, president Francisco “Paco” Valcarcel has suddenly informed ALA Promotions president Michael Aldeguer that Nietes has to defend his title against No.1 ranked contender Francisco Rodriguez Jr in a mandatory. They wanted an easy title defense for nietes hopefully the wbo forces nietes to face his mandatory challenger Rodriguez.

This is going to be intense. I know Nietes won't be easy but I'm leaning towards Chihuas. I hope Chihuas accepts the challenge for March 28th and the president turns down Nietes' voluntary defense, that way I can attend this card before I leave the country

I thought they approved the WBO defense already? W/E, he should've been in camp already, so he'll of the in shape aspect on lock.

I'm cool with the fight happening sooner than later

I thought so too but wasn't that article stating that WBO president Francisco “Paco” Valcarcel wanted Nietes to defend against Chihuas, forcing the fight with Ceja to be overtaken in the process. ALA seems to be trying to retain the voluntary defense against Ceja that way Nietes vs Rodriguez Jr could be settled in the Summer months. However, it seems like they have no problem with facing Chihuas on the March 28th date, so it's all up to the sanctioning body's acceptance/rejection for the voluntary defense against Ceja and whether or not Rodriguez is willing to take on Nietes at the end of March.
