Do children still dream of being world champion?

A lot of fighters when they were young notably Muhammad Ali all dreamed of being world heavyweight champion when they were older but now with the huge variety of sports available (which dont require being punched in the face). Do kids still dream of being a boxer or is it not so favourable anymore? I personally would love to be a world champion but that is a dream and my feet are vry much firmly on the ground!

I can't imagine that they do. Being 'the heavyweight champion of the world' used to be the most romanticised type of athlete, and most importantly most weight classes had one main, recognized champion and they were very famous. Today almost none of that applies. Mayweather is the most famous American boxer, do kids really grow up wanting to become like him? A guy like Pacquiao however probably has many youngsters idolizing him and wanting to become like him but that's because his country romanticises his status.

I think if you spend even just a few months at the gym, if you're taking it seriously.. you're gonna start having visions of being adored by the crowd. Standing in the middle with your hand raised.

It's a very pleasing dream, I'm sure many who have spent time in a gym have had that thoughts of becoming the best they could or the GOAT.

Only if you have a Father, Uncle or somebody like that who is into boxing and you go to the gym with them daily and you start to copy what they're doing. But a kid just randomly choosing boxing like they do other sports, doesn't seem like it happens often.

look, any kid who starts taking boxing obviously dreams of becoming champion one day. however, the number of kids taking part and the number with that dream is ever decreasing.

I'm only 18 but I'm probably the most boxing obsessed in my family and I'm proud to say I chose it over football (soccer) which is massive in England!
