Willie Monrore -On The Road To GGG

Good interview by Nes. I was scared they were going to try and make this fight for Golovkin in May (especially with Hougigo pushing it! lol). But Monroe says he needs/wants a couple more fights first which is great to hear.

I like this potential match up, but Monroe does need more seasoning with some tougher opponents like Heiland, Johnson, maybe even Geale or Korobov, then make a big fight with Golovkin.

    Good on him.

Think he has a good head on his shoulders about it, as to where he is at right now, what he has to do to get a possible fight in the future, and recognizing that GGG is the man at '60.

Looking forward to his future fights.

Looked really good in his last fight. Hopefully he continues his rise.

          Way too early for GGG.

Willie has other, less dangerous opportunities waiting for him. Try grabbing one of those belts that GGG wants to get. After a couple more fight see if you can get Kid Chocolate to **** with you. After avoiding GGG and Korobov his masculinity could not shy away from Monroe as well, or could he ? Hmmm ?

Anyway, if Monroe fights GGG too soon and gets tagged with the L, he'll lose marketability. How about building that up first then you'll still be established either way it goes.

I appreciate Monroe's candid response. He knows he's not there yet, he's still an ESPN-level fighter with the potential to become a HBO/SHO fighter. I would like to see him vs. Heiland or Jacobs.

Haha, I wouldn't say pushing it... but I literally see nothing else they could do for him in May. Was my guestimation because I don't see anything else for Golovkin and will probably be a very ehhhhh fight.

I could go down the list of WBA/WBC fighters and none of them would be a fit.

But good he'll get more fights/wants more fights. At this point... he's just some dude who won the Boxcino tourney and still a question mark in a lot of our eyes. The Vera win was good for him.... but Vera's on a long slide.

For some reason he's already #3 in the WBA... which is ridiculously high.

Maybe try and take on a former GGG opponent to prove yourself or somebody in the top 15 of an orgainzation.

Looking at the rankings, most guys are foreigners.... and he's with Banner... so they don't really have major pull in bringing anybody over and I don't know if they'd travel.

Anyway, back to earlier... he for sure needs more fights to even consider that.

It would make too much sense for Artie Peullo to put Monroe vs Heiland on the undercard of Provodnikov/Matthysse. Ironically, in the WBC Heiland is #3 and Monroe #10, and in the WBA Monroe is #3 and Heiland #9. Would setup an ideal WBA/WBC mando for Golovkin later in the year. If Sergio Martinez does decide to execute his last fight with HBO, Monroe would seem like an ideal opponent for both sides. Monroe would get a jump off a big name and Martinez collects his last paycheck against a light puncher.

For Golovkin's May fight, I'm convinced unless Chudinov beats Eubank, it'll be Hopkins at 170-168. Nard wants it, Sanchez blessed it, even Loeffler & Herman said it'd be a good fight. HBO sees it as a way to get Golovkin possible rounds with a big name at a reasonable price and kind of preview for a possible Ward/Golovkin fight. And it's Virgil Hunter approved:

If he can do that he should... but if they're still a go for March 28th, they better hurry up.
April 18th already off the table with Crawford now going up against JCC Jnr's card.

I don't think Heiland will be too expensive to bring over..... he might... who knows. At least the card will get HBO backing

He has to try to improve and try to beat the best if he has a champion's mentality. I just don't think he will ever beat GGG. Only old age can do that. GGG will beat all the middleweights the way Wlad beats all the heavyweights.
