Lewis/Wlad/Hopkins all came back from defeats. So why doubting Broner?

    Oscar's words from 2007:
    AROUND THE RING

De La Hoya takes on new kind of Ring

Oscar De La Hoya, who used to buy The Ring magazine as a kid, remembers the first time he saw himself on the cover.

Oscar De La Hoya promises to have no say on the editorial content of The Ring. "I was an amateur and they had the whole [1992] Olympic team on the cover," he told ESPN.com. "Seeing myself on the cover, I was like, 'Oh, I made it!' Even though I was still an amateur and hadn't won the gold medal yet, I just had the feeling of, 'Wow, I'm getting there.' Being on The Ring cover is like an honor. That's the way I saw it."
A few years later, De La Hoya was featured on the first of his many solo covers.
"When they asked me to do a photo shoot, I was ecstatic," he said. "To be on The Ring cover, you have to be a good fighter. They don't just put anybody on the cover."
Now, De La Hoya owns the iconic, 85-year-old "Bible of Boxing," closing a deal three years in the making this week to purchase Ring and other boxing and wrestling publications.
"I've been thinking about this for many years," De La Hoya said. "I have been reading Ring magazine forever. Now that we own it, it's a dream come true. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would own it."

So? Magic Johnson owns the Lakers but he won't be putting Kobe over Jordan.

YOU said it was a RUMOR that GBP owns Ring Magazine. Now I'll be more than happy to accept what you find if you can show who owns the Ring magazine instead of GBP.

I don't care man. Broner is a skilled and great dude.
A few years ago when he was broke, he didn't have money for tips and he told this waitress that if he ever win the lottery, he'll give her half. He did win the lottery and he actually gave her half the money.

Pac/Floyd ain't gonna do something like that.

Most of this was probably already said but the hell with it.

            1. Broner really isn't that good. He only looked dominant at times at 130 when he had significant size advantage. Even then, he got a gift against PDL, a light punching blown up featherweight who was hand-picked to make Broner look good. People also point to the Quintero fight, but I don't really too much emphasis on that because I had it a draw and it was only his 8th pro fight. Since moving up in weight, he's looked average. Lewis/Wlad/Hopkins are great fighters and were something special. Broner was an HBO hype machine.

            2. Wlad and Hopkins particularly were not only dedicated but were blessed with great genes and as a result they're always in phenomenal shape. They also take great care of their bodies. Broner looks like he's close to 180 in between fights. On top of having bad genes, he probably spends little time in the gym until training camp. And who the hell knows how much he eats and drinks when he's not training. Some people have to work harder to keep weight down.

            3. Broner might have been better if he developed a different style early but he copies Floyd. The shoulder roll is a very difficult style to master and that's why so few fighters use it. Broner doesn't have the tools necessary to pull it off, but there's no signs of him willing to change. Lewis/Wlad/Hopkins adjusted and/or used what worked for them best.

But he isn't that good. The Maidana fight was the culmination of everything. He went life n death with other fighters before that including an older Malignaggi, Vicente Escebedo and Ponce De Leon. He didn't even look that impressive against Carlos Molina or Taylor.
              Brook isn't that good either.

Broner is in with better comp than Vlad.

Comparing Broner to any great fighter is a joke. Pull your head out of your ass.

Most of those fighters were good fighters to begin with. After seeing Broner struggle against an Paulie, I knew then that he was a hype job.

You make 3 good points that I'm more or less onboard with. However, I still think Broner might end up doing better than you seem to be suggesting here, but it's really more of a hunch than anything.

The only thing I really object to in what you wrote is the implied assumption that Wlad's name belongs next to LL and B Hop's.
