Comments Thread For: Nicholas Walters Return Pushed Back To April Date

According to Jacques Deschamps, manager of Nicholas 'The Axeman' Walters (25-0, 21KOs), his upcoming defense of the World Boxing Association (WBA) featherweight super title will get pushed back to a date in April. He was scheduled to return on March 21 at The Theater in New York's Madison Square Garden, but picked up the fly and withdrew from the contest.

The opponent was going to be Gamalier Rodriguez, as part of an HBO televised doubleheader with Terence Crawford. There is no confirmation if Rodriguez will still be Walters' opponent.

Not a good sign at all, i remember he said one of his best traits was his work ethic and that he's always in the gym even when he has no fight. Get his first taste of success and the guys already putting on weight and skipping training.

Yeah I guess that's what happens when you squeeze yourself down into a weight class just to be the biggest guy there. Have a couple extra pieces of ham at Christmas and you gotta pull out of fights almost 2 months early with the "flu" or "fly" as the article said lol..

It amazes me that some can read one blog post with as little information as this story has and jump to so many conclusions and assumptions. This is flu season and, depending on your interpretation, a lot of weight could be 15 pounds, which a boxer can loser easily during a training camp.

Yet, you make it sound like this guy has turned into a bloated whale who has to lie about having to the flu so that he can delay a fight by one month to lose the 80 pounds he gained while he wasn't training. What a crock of s...t!

How dare he skip training for a fight because he has the flu! He should be in the gym at all times regardless of his condition so he can please fans like you by risking his life in the boxing ring.

He put on a lot of weight because of various events and christmas, it wasn't just the flu. After the donaire fight he said monday he's gonna be back in the gym training but the truth is he just partied after the fight. He can live his life however he wants, but if he's as truly dedicated to boxing as he says he is, he wouldn't let the foundation he built crumble so easily. I'm just saying its not a good sign and i can see his hunger for boxing already starting to fade.

The article literally says he "put on a lot of weight" before he contracted the fly.
