Comments Thread For: Mauricio Herrera is Looking To Return in April or May

Junior welterweight contender Mauricio Herrera (21-5 with 7 knockouts), 34-years-old, is ready to get back on horse after suffering a controversial twelve round decision loss to Joseph Benavidez last December in Las Vegas. In the process, Herrera lost his WBA interim-title.

Herrera is not interested in a rematch with Benavidez, but he does want to face the best fighters in his weight division. The one rematch Herrera would really like is against WBC/WBA champion Danny Garcia, who also won a controversial decision in their contest in early 2014.

140 lb king? Whatever your sniffing please pass it here. Although I do think the Garcia fight was close and probably should have went to Herrera, I thought Benavidez clearly demonstrated he was the better boxer vs. Herrera that night.
If you look at the compubox numbers, Herrera only outlanded Benavidez by a couple punches per round. However, bemavidez averaged 5 more head punches landed per round. His punching accuracy was way higher as well. Benavidez also clearly landed the harder more effective shots the while fight. Every punch snapped herreras head back and slseemed to trouble him. Herrera didn't land one punch the whole fight that looked like it had even a remote chance of having any effect whatsoever on Benavidez. And the punches Herrera did land, it was while Benavidez retreated to the corner to do a rope a dope, which I admit was a dumb move and probably the reason why people think he lost the fight. I challenge everyone to go watch the fight again. Most of herreras punches were blocked by Benavidez arms or gloves. Herrera would land a few body shots that had no effect, and when Benavidez was ready he would punch the crap out of Herrera and get off the ropes, and proceeded to school Herrera for the other 2 minutes of the round boxing in the middle of the ring. Like I said the only punches Herrera really landed were those weak body shots on the ropes. While Benavidez was doing beautiful work to the face of Herrera, landing over 50 more head punches than Herrera, with much more power and accuracy. Its a no brainer to me. The HBO guys I think saw it differently which obviously I fluences everyone watching the fight. But to me I agreed with the decision. I didn't really know much about either of them before that fight, but after the fight I was a Benavidez fan and I think Herrera couldn't punch his way out of a wet tissue. Hopefully Benavidez rematches him and doesn't do that ****** rope a dope tactic, because he is clearly a far superior boxer than Herrera, and again i challenge everyone on here who doesn't agree to go watch it again on YouTube and try to block out the commentators and judge the fight for yourselves

Great. He is the WBA/WBC/Ring Magazine 140 champion so he should be in line to fight WBA/WBC/Ring Magazine 147 champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. You go Maestro!

You wrote an encyclopedia homie, first sign you should've avoided posting. The garcia fight wasn't close outside of Garcia fans. Sorry to break it to you cuz. Garcia got an arguable max 4 rounds in his fight with Herrera.

Hmm. Herrera vs Dulorme would be interesting. Another robbery waiting to happen, but still interesting.
