  • Comments Thread For: De La Hoya on Santa Cruz Buyout: They Didn't Want Rigo

Back on January 27th, Golden Boy Promotions President Oscar De La Hoya had advised BoxingScene.com that he planned to begin immediate negotiations for a unification between WBC super bantamweight champion Leo Santa Cruz (29-0-1, 17KOs) and WBA/WBO champion Guillermo Rigondeaux (15-0, 10KOs).

"For Leo Santa Cruz, I want to start talks and reach out to Rigondeaux's people. That's the fight that Golden Boy Promotions wants to make. That's the fight Leo wants," De La Hoya had told BoxingScene.com last month.

Santa Cruz was one of the few remaining Al Haymon fighters who was being promoted by Golden Boy.

If haymon did this to protect Cruz, he could be helping Floyd avoid pacquiao and advising him how to deflect the blame and make more excuse while making it look like Floyd still wants the fight

Not a good luck on haymon and st Cruz, blatant ducking and protecting of undefeated fighter

As long as LSC fights Mares and (if the signing is true) walters than it's ok in the long run. Those are 2 great fights.

I am really disappointed there will be no rigo v lsc fight. I'm a big LSC fan. I doub t he'd win but I was hopeful he could pull a chavez v taylor and wear Rigo down and win late.

I only hope Haymon is going to make rigo fight later this year but I highly doubt it.

Arum keeps his guys away from rigo. Haymon advises his guys to stay away from him. I really feel bad for Rigo, he's too good for his own good.

I bet walters would fight him at 126.

Oscar's attempts to sabotage Haymon will fail. Santa Cruz is now free to fight Mares, Gonzalez, and (soon) Walters.

De La Hoya will be back to wearing drag, snorting coke, and showing *****s up his ass in no time.
