As for how the negotiations went, Showtime is indeed kinda lame these days. And I wouldn't be surprised if they have a shakeup in the boxing dept. CBS is used to dropping axes left and right and they don't mind playing hardball. They really need a better matchmaker. And actually, from what I read on these boxing sites, several posters on these forums would be a good match for the job. Espinoza just doesn't seem to understand much about boxing. He's more a company boy than anything else... with the slick company boy speak in all of his interviews.

As for the matchup, I wonder at this stage if any fighter can drop Provo with that steel dome of his. Because he has been clocked with some monster bombs, and Matthysse with drop several more on him. As long as it lasts, it will be a true fight fan's dream battle. I'm leaning toward Matthysse, but you never know.

This should be one for that ages. I'm leaning Matthysse myself if he remembers to move enough to try to force Provodnikov to get set and reset-- Which is something I'm sure that Provo's camp has worked on. If it's just straight up bombs away then I think Provo's skull and will should prevail. Given the guys involved this should be something to see.

I wouldn't be surprised if Espinoza's unable to finish the Pac-May negotiations and gets fired asap. LOL!

Agreed 100%. Although I'm sure we'll see some attempt at actual boxing in the first round or two, just for effect.

That being said, I am actually glad that the fight is being aired on HBO.

                    HBO > Showtime
Haymon only has 5 primetime shows on NBC, so what you talking about.

Deontay Wilder is likely going to fight four times this year, "One Time" Keith Thurman is likely to get three fights, as will Danny Garcia, Adrien Broner, Abner Mares and others.

Kovalev-Pascal is being positioned as the mandatory challenger for Stevenson (50-50 purse split); Showtime is definitely going to be a willing bidder for that.

You add in Maidana and Khan fighting twice, the influx of talent from Matchroom Sport showcasing some of their fighters with Haymon (Brook, Froch, Joshua, DeGale, etc), the final two Mayweather events, and Haymon keeping all of those 80-100 prospects busy (Errol Spence Jr is probably fighting 5 times this year), and the demise of Showtime is a touch premature.

Showtime will likely have 10-15 SHO Championship Boxing events this year, 2-4 PPV events, and maybe 15-20 ShoBox cards this year.

If you thought Garcia-Salka was terrible, i'd wonder what you'll think of the four Golovkin fights that HBO will try and market, lol.
[Quillin/Lee/Saunders-WBO and N'Dam/Mora-IBF are likely to end up in Haymon's orbit, Cotto is going to make one voluntary defense before then vacating the belt and going back own to 154, and Oscar will protect Alvarez with his entire being.]

                    Golovkin-Murray, Golovkin-Heiland, Golovkin-Willie Monroe Jr, Golovkin-Chudinov/Eubank.

                    have fun with that.
