Comments Thread For: IBF: N'Dam, Sturm Must Confirm Availability By Feb. 9

Springfield, NJ – The IBF Middleweight title, which was held by Jermain Taylor since October 8, 2014, has been vacated. It has been widely reported that on January 22, 2015, Mr. Taylor surrendered to authorities in Pulaski County, AK, was placed in custody and is due in court on February 10, 2015. Reports have also indicated that Mr. Taylor would be moved to a state hospital to await an evaluation which will take place by April 27.

Rule 5.C. of the IBF/USBA Rules Governing Championship Contests states in part:
“Any boxer who is ill, injured, under a legal impediment which would prevent the bout from taking place, or on suspension at the time the Championships Chairman and President order a bout under this rule shall be considered unavailable.”

This I like. No interim crap, no allowing for way too much time (Ward), just straight to the point - champion obviously cannot defend, so put the title up for grabs. The show must go on, not "The show must have multiple people holding the same belt".

Should make #1 N'dam vs #5 Lemieux for vacant IBF title
        #2 vacant
#3 Sturm doesn't deserve shot lost last fight at MW and last fight was at SMW
#4 BJ Sanders is the mandatory challenger for WBO title

Are they FFing kidding? That's like telling someone with terminal cancer to walk it off. It's almost as if they have no idea what happened.

How the hell is Sturm getting this shot? Lol every time he loses it seems he's right back in a title fight.

Sanctioning fees are based on a percentage of the fighter's purse. The IBF charges 5% of your purse to fight for their glorious title. Sturm with his German tv backing, always brings a nice fat purse for the IBF feed trough.

Sturm will lose though, then N'Dam will be subject to a Haymon v HBO bidding war.

Jesus, Sturm is going to keep getting title shots until he's 50. Doesn't matter how many fights he wins/loses
