Pointless learning for someone taller and longer?

Did cus have a bias for short stocky guys since he was also short n stocky?

Could Tyson have fought another style?

Probably, but that was the style that suited him best.

Cus works well with powerful fast guys who utilize their footwork in agile peekaboo defense.

Freddy Roach also works a similar style with fast aggressive fighters who utilize footwork as their defense.

Emmanuel Steward made his career training tall long guys like Tommy Hearns and Wladimir Klitschko.

It's not the style really, it's just the tools that the fighter has as well as a trainer that knows how to harness them in the most successful way.

If you're a tall guy why would you make yourself shorter and not use the reach you have? If you're a short guy why would you stand erect and make yourself an easier target to hit?

floyd patterson made that style famous for cus.

he wasn't stocky and at 6 ft wasn't short for his era.

with his power and build plus good chin, i would have liked to have seen mike more of a pressure, inside fighter.

when i see a guy with chin and short not working the body inside, it drives me crazy.

Mike was a head hunter. He was looking to put guys to sleep everytime.

I agree with you and don't understand why power punchers don't go to the body more. Guys who go down from a body shot don't usually get up for the count.

Tyson had short T rex arms so that bob and weave peekabo style was perfect for him, that is Cus style and Tyson was his perfect student.

Tyson had no jab at all, he mainly threw hooks and uppercuts.

apparently Cus had Tyson running with weights so he wouldn't grow any taller because his style only suited a shorter fighter

No jab? What the **** man, know your boxing, his jab was one of his best assets, in his prime he was able to consistently out jab taller fighters. Watch Tyson vs Bonecrusher Smith, notice how he uses the jab.
