Comments Thread For: DeGale: I Could See Myself Stopping Andre Dirrell!

James DeGale MBE says it is his destiny to become the first British Olympic Gold medallist to win a World title when he fights for the IBF crown.

DeGale will fight for the vacant belt after Carl Froch vacated the title through injury, and promoter Eddie Hearn is engaged in early negotiations with former Froch foe and first available contender Andre Dirrell.

The Harlesden ace – who turned 29 today – landed the mandatory position in the IBF with a stoppage win over Brandon Gonzales at Wembley Stadium on the undercard of Froch’s KO win over George Groves in May, and demolished Marco Antonio Periban inside three rounds in Liverpool in November. DeGale is in the form of his career and believes that there is no possible fighter that can stop him winning the title.

Hearn really has no intention to make this happen. He desperately wants to get Groves in for the beating.

I could see it. DeGale's been looking good in recent fights and Andre hasn't had a real fight since Abraham. He threw everything at Derek Edwards and still couldn't stop him, and then got rocked bad in the final round. I'll be surprised though if any Dirrell agrees to go back to England though.

i hope he does but i like andre hes a top fighter its crazy cause i think he'd be capable of boxing circles around degale but i just don't think we have seen the best of degale just yet. i'd prefer this over degale vs groves let them both fight the dirrell brothers

Honestly I can see that happening too. Andre Dirrell isn't a quarter of what he used to be. That will be exposed big time when he steps his competition level up.

I think Chunky is dreaming. I don't even think DeGale can win a decision against Dirrell in the UK. Dirrell is a different type of fighter/technician than what DeGale has faced in the pro ranks.

UK folks, pardon my American ignorance, but what does MBE behind DeGale's name stand for/mean?

It's a queens honour. Not sure what it stands for but he got if for his Olympic performance. They give them for inspirational achievements.
