Comments Thread For: DeGale-Dirrell: Hearn Confident of Bringing To The UK

As previously reported, Carl Froch has opted to vacate his IBF super-middleweight crown - leaving compatriot James DeGale to fight American Andre Dirrell for the title in April.

DeGale is the mandatory challenger for the IBF crown - but Froch has his sights set on a lucrative showdown with former middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr in Las Vegas.

DeGale defeated Brandon Gonzales on the undercard of the Froch-Groves re-match last year and is now in negotiations to fight Dirrell, with a bout expected to happen at London's O2 Arena on April 25.

Haymon has both the brothers. There is no chance either of them come to the UK.

"He hasn't been that keen to come to the U.K..." I wonder why...

The fight makes the most financial sense in the UK. If Dirrell doesn't accept then it'll go to purse bids so he might not have a choice in the end. I can see Haymon pulling him out of the running altogether.

I think Haymon will find a way to win the bid if they really want the fight (which I'm unsure). When has a top level fighter from the Haymon stable gone overseas?
Also, while Degale is a good fighter I don't see how the fight generates substantially more income than if it was to take place in US.

Dirrell should take this fight whether in the UK or not, he's 31 and can't afford to be turning down title shots.

Hearn has Joshua on the undercard and potentially Kevin Mitchell. It will sell out the O2 Arena. I don't know where they'd put it on in America that would do well.
