My opinion is based off of rankings. Bradley was a consensus top 5 P4P fighter in the world. Hopkins was not ranked among the top 10 P4P fighters.

Both fighters were ranked among the top 2-3 fighters in their respective weight classes (and remain there after their respective losses).

Bradley was an undefeated 30 year old fighter, albeit with one undeserved decision vs. Pacquiao in their first fight. Hopkins was 49 and had 6 previous losses, including 2 at LHW.

Kovalev's victory over Hopkins is #2 in 2014 IMO, which is a great feat, I just rate Pacquiao's victory higher. Plus the fight was more exciting.

beIN Sports Espanol aired two if the top 5 Fights of the year according to The Ring. Good on them.
Before new years they replayed Rodriguez Takayama and Salido Terdsak as part of the same show.

Anyone else agree with Joshua being prospect of the year? I certainly do, he looked epic in 2014.

Multiple people in Boxing who have seen him work have gave him acclaim, including Malik Scott who said AJ "more than held his own" when sparring with Klitschko. James Bashir Ali, a trainer of Klitschko, called Joshua a "mammoth of a Heavyweight."

Beterbiev is better prospect in 2014. Joshua beat nobody of note, Beterbiev beat a top 10 opponent and former world champ in 2 rounds.

I think if you're at the level of beating former world Champions and 10 opponents you're past the level of "prospect." As you said, Joshua hasn't beaten any top 10 opponents, hell he hasn't beaten any top 15 opponents yet.

I dunno, that's just my opinion. To me Beterbiev is already a contender which is further along then line than a prospect.

I definitely can see why you'd say that, but I think that only speaks to how good he is, same for Lomachenko.

To put it in perspective, Joshua (10) has almost the same number pro fights than Beterbiev (7) and Lomachenko (4) put together.

In saying that, I do think Joshua could have beaten some top 10 opponents. I wouldn't necessarily favor Jennings over him for example. He is an excellent prospect.

                  Good points.

Do they take age into consideration though? Beterbiev is 30 years old.

Maybe, although he was 29 in 2014, only turned 30 in January but I think getting dropped against Page would not have helped him (albeit it was really a push on replay).

If Kovalev gets Stevenson this year along with Pascal, he could be looking at Fighter of the year twice in a row which would be a huge boost. I honestly hope he does.
