Marcos Chino Maidana Monster Thread

I know you have never rated him Dirk and that is fine, but to call him a journeyman is not only false but makes you look like a clueless troll.
Journeyman in Boxing don't make Millions, they don't win World titles, they are not in main events on Major American TV networks, time and time again.
Jeff Lacy from last night is a journeyman now for example.Comment

Unwilling to get in there against Thurman and contemplating retirement, I don't see how he deserves a master thread. Right now I almost see him as irrelevant.Comment

Maidana's biggest asset is not his punching power, to me it's his ability to feint up and down, throw punches from weird angles and counter your counter, also his borderline dirty inside fighting skills are good and effective especially if the ref. is not alert.
In his fight against Floyd he showed a good jab and good defense and he made Floyd miss with some shots, which was partly because of his good defense and also because Floyd was thinking about defense even before he threw the punch because he was concerned about Maidana countering him, Maidana showed some good wrinkles in his fights against Mayweather, if he had better technique and better stamina he would've given Floyd more problems.

DANNY GARCIA'S ON MAIDANA'S MIND
As El Chino descansa, speculation about his ring return beggins
By Carlos Irusta – ESPNdeportes.com
BUENOS AIRES -- Marcos René Maidana, "El Chino" or "The People’s Champion", is resting by now. "You have to think that he had ten intense months ful of training camps and expectations around him,” says his advisor Sebastián Contursi. "If you also count another high pressure fight like the one against Adrien Broner, on December 2013 it makes perfect sense that he wants to rest, ‘detox’ his mind and body and stay home with his family.”
As it is public Maidana had the birth of his daughter Emilia about a year ago, just around the time his first fight with Floyd Mayweather was confirmed for May 3. That fact even postponed his departure to Oxnard for the training camp for a few days. He arrived in Oxnard on March 17, for which he had 47 consecutive days of training there yet his training had started on February 22 in Santa Fe, Argentina.
Needless to go through your memories much. Between December 2013 and 2014 Maidana beat Broner and fought Mayweather twice. In the first one his great performance earned him a rematch in the fans’ and writers’ eyes. In the second edition, in September, Floyd was not the same as he never accepted the high pressure and savage-minded strategy with which the Argentinean overwhelmed him in the first edition nor was Maidana as he gave the center of the ring to the American. The result was Mayweather as the winner again without leaving any doubts this time.
And now? Marcos Maidana is on Al Haymon’s team who is launching a highly competitive TV series -"Premier Boxing Champions"- on NBC, a free TV channel. "Haymon is the smartest person I’ve met in 20 years in boxing,” Contursi says. “And that includes no other than Bob Arum. We have a great relationship and now we have to wait."
It was rumored that Haymon proposed the date of June 20 for Maidana’s return yet no opponent was mentioned at all. In fact, although there is plenty of time it’s hard to think that Maidan can box again in June as he is still resting and have not had a deep conversation with Contursi yet. “In any case Maidana needs no less than three months in Oxnard to go back at it 100% ready and hungry." Contursi explains.
Everything leads to think that Maidana could be back between June and September but September – the month of the big fights in Las Vegas – makes more sense. Betting on any name as a possible foe for him is not an easy job. It was even rumored a showdown with Manny Pacquiao (it would be a high voltage encounter by the way) but the Philippine, among others, is linked to Bob Arum and a joint venture with Haymon would not be easy.
Some say that Amir Khan could face Pacquiao, which would leave the British out of the picture from the Argentinean. Al the Team Maidana have always pursued a rematch of that brilliant fight held on December 11, 2010, in which Amir came as the winner after being almost knocked out. But is stil a wish from the Argentinean team.
Adrien Broner (29-2-0, 22 KO), who will be fighting John Molina (27-5-0, 22 KO) next March 7 at the MGM, has also expressed his desire of a rematch with Maidana, yet still remains to hear from Maidana about that.
What comes from Contursi’s words is that the opponent to chalenge would be Danny Garcia. “It would be a tremendous fight,” Contursi enthuses. Maidana also has special interest to avenge his compatriot Lucas Matthysse.
Danny García is scheduled to face Lamont Peterson next April 11, fight in which no title would be on the line as they agreed a 143 lbs. catch weight, instead of the junior welterweight class limit of 140 lbs. Peterson (33-2-1-, 17 KO) also avoided to risk his 140 lbs. IBF title when he fought Matthysse in May 2013, when the Argentinean knocked out in two rounds. In fact Peterson should give the chance to another Argentinean, his mandatory César Cuenca (47-0-0, 2 KO), although that fight was put aside for the moment in the light of the fight with Danny Garcia.
García (29-0-0, 17 KO) considers to move up to welterweight, yet no right now. If he beats Peterson maybe he rushes the decision and that could generate a very attractive fight with Marcos Maidana.
That’s Team Maidana’s wish for now while “The People’s Champion” takes a rest knowing that some hard work would likely lies ahead. After all, his spectacular no-step-back style will always secure him a privileged spot in today’s boxing.Comment

Marcos Maidana isn't a journeyman by any means. With ravaging wins against Ortiz and Broner along with being seconds away from finishing Khan, he has a good standing as a dominant welterweight. He is an awkward brawler who has been turned into a decent boxer puncher. His swarming style, while Floyd may not of been in prime condition, gave Floyd his toughest fight in many years. Would make since for him to fight Garcia vs Lamont or Thurman vs Guerrero winner but I guess we will just have to see if he even comes back. He doesn't give a **** about boxing, politics, or boxing politics for that matter. Doesn't hold a frame or reference on fans perspective of todays boxing world and to me that's a little refreshing with this generations try hards coming in full force (Garcia, Quillin, Broner).Comment
