Fights on free network TV is the way to go for sure. So glad that Al Haymon is making that happen. PPV might generate lots of cash but it's from a small group of hardcore fans. And by small audience I mean in comparison to other major sports like NFL, soccer, rugby and cricket.

        18 million watched Eubank/Benn II

        27 million Brits watched Ali/Frazier in 1971.

Why? It was on terrestrial television. Everyone has always known the answer to this question.

            Terrestrial television, and good fights.

I remember boring fights on terrestrial TV, doesn't do it for anyone.

We watching boxing to watch boxing not to see girls. If anything it's just an annoying distraction.

The problem with boxing from what I can tell is an internal issue because there are less boxing gyms than there was before, and with less boxing gyms less people are participating in the sport therefore boxing is not as popular as it was back then. I blame the government for that with all the urban planning and all the subsides for housing. There is also problems with TV networks and corrupt promoters who want to televise boxing only on premium cable (HBO and Showtime) instead of network television. What NBA, NFL, and MLB have over boxing is that's free on network television. Despite these problems boxing is still a mainstream attraction, there is still a huge demand for boxing.

Boxing was never mainstream. Only the big fights made mainstream news. But nowadays there are no big fights!

Which country? It is mainstream is some countries. It will never be mainstream in the US ever again.
