Comments Thread For: Loeffler Clarifies Golovkin's Position With The WBC

It's not clear who WBC middleweight champion, Miguel Cotto, will face in his next bout. It was thought that he would take on the challenge of the precocious Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez - who will instead face James Kirkland in May - and there are rumors he could be engaging in another go-around with Floyd Mayweather, who out-pointed him a few years ago.

Regardless, Golovkin is next in line to fight for that belt, after stopping Marco Antonio Rubio in three back in October.

cotto's pretty much assed out if floyd fights manny. he gambled and lost. i understood were he was coming from trying to cash out with floyd, and didn't quite understand what the cluster **** really happened between him and gbp, but that ship sailed too. if he intends on fighting in june, there's no other justifiable fight other than Golovkin. what's he gonna do?

canelo fights in may. floyd/manny fight in may. a Bradley fight at MW is just ****ing shameful. what's next? a tune up? martinez was a tune up. it's time to pay the piper. I'm a fan of his, but I'm a fan of boxing before i am a fan of his. anything other than a golovkin fight is bull**** at this point.

Racially motivated? Or the reality that Rigo has a promoter in Caribe that does absolutely nothing for his career and has zero pull. I like Rigo but he should be much more pro-active than reactive. If your promoter isn't doing it for you, get out there and remind people constantly you are p4p top 5. Only time you hear from Rigo is when he's in camp and doing media day. Put down the dominoes, take off the flip flops, and leave your poolside.

He should've been the mandatory long ago, he waited a year for Sergio to heal only to see him get a voluntary defense that went to the highest bidder. Now he's gotta for that person to make their voluntary defense.

Cotto should've taken the Canelo offer when he had the chance. Now he'll probably give up the belt rather than face GGG... which would actually be a smart move given the wars he's been in and his advanced age. The guy is solid but he isn't superman. It all comes back to him being a diva in the Canelo negotiations... nothing new for Cotto.

June? Like the second Saturday in June, say MSG in NY?

If Cotto gets left in the cold with Manny/Floyd, Alvarez/Kirkland, maybe a Golovkin ppv gets done after all? It'd probably require a 155lb catch weight, with 90% of the purse going to Cotto. And then even if Cotto gets destroyed, I'm sure he could make another big ppv with Alvarez by the end of the year and retire on his mountain of money.

that's always been a thing with cotto. i don't think he's ever been one to lack disillusions. giving up the belt might be the smartest thing he could do, and there are no shortage of fights if he went back to 147/154. canelo would still be there, there's khan, there's bradley, maybe a garcia fight down the line which could be huge on pr day parade, that's if he goes back down to ww, which might be out of the question at this point.

Cotto will fight Bradley if the Mayweather rematch doesn't happen.
