I don't see it get emphasized much, unless fan boys are going at it.

You cant please boxing fans , when a fighter loses a fight he was exposed but if hes undefeated he hasn't fought anybody good. Fighters just cant win in a lot of fans eyes, maybe that's why most don't really care about fans opinions and now with the internet and social media we have trolls everywhere making fools of themselves saying things behind a screen name that they would never say if their real name was attached to it and making boxing fans look ****** to anybody reading it.

        true dat!!!!

I asked many fighters, trainers and people in the sport to join in the forums. They just shake their heads and carry on. Bill Miller spoke it best, "dem people don't know nothin' bout no boxing".

Agree with you completely OP, fighters care more about being undefeated than stepping up and really challenging themselves and it is resulting in less exciting matches for us fans. I don't think losing to a great fighter makes you a bum and anyone who does think that is ignorant.

Boxing is about great fights, not great records.

We don't follow boxing because of records; we follow them because of fights. Fights can go either way. So records are overrated. You can avoid your way to a zero. Or you can make boxing history by fighting the best despite losing every once in a while.

This is what made Oscar a star. Who didn't he fight??

Because boxing is a product of the people that participate in the sport. I find that this younger generation is all about Me! Me! Me! What they can get the most from, with the least possible effort. I don't think there is a single solitary kid that I have spoken to in recent memory that has said or done anything beyond what was in their own best interest. I understand that these guys are putting their long term health on the line, I understand that all the rounds, all the punches are going to take their toll. I know that its hard to get up and train. But damn it all if your at the top of the pyramid then you owe it to the fans that are getting you those millions in your pocket to give the fans what they want. That's what its supposed to mean to be the "CHAMP!"

I know we laugh at Broner alot, especially seeing him get beat up by Maidana. But I will admit that Broner getting his first loss, especially in that manner, could benefit him in the long run. IF he can keep winning from here on and showcase his talent and improve upon it, without the pressure of being "undefeated," he can still have a bright future. But that is a big "IF"

They don't owe the fans a damned thing. Are the fans going to be there to take care of them once they retire to deal with the repercussions of being a fighter, hell no. The fans are nowhere to be found!

Perfect example being Tom 'Boom Boom' Johnson. Record number of title defenses for his IBF Featherweight title, left broke after being swindle by King and he is now being taken care of by family. The 'fans' just moved on to the next guy.

I think how u feel a fighter is respecting the game rather than winning or losing matter the most to the fans, if a guy doesn't train seriously and have a poor performance ppl will say he's a bum, if he quits in the ring like Ortiz he doesn't have the heart to b respected as a fighter but other fighters like rosado I haven't seen him win a fight yet but I think he has heart and will fight anybody but the $ has to make sense to take the fight but now it's to much strategizing involved but hey if it gets u a tittle shot, hey it works. It's called great management

Yup boxing fans can't be pleased I mean look at canelo dude gained nothing from fighting trout mayweather and Lara dude fought the best and only a few people actually gave him props wether you think he won or lost is beside the point he fought the best all before turning 24.. I gurantee you if everybody was behind canelo and giving him props when due other fighters would do the same.. I swear fans are ruining the sport
