Comments Thread For: Photos: Brandon Rios Demolishes Alvarado in Three

Broomfield, Colo. -- Brandon Rios delivered perhaps the best performance of his career, while functionally ending Mike Alvarado's in the process after a merciless and humiliating three-round beatdown Saturday evening at 1STBANK Center in Broomfield, Colorado.

The fight was all one way, with Rios looking like the fire-breathing dragon that once stormed to the lightweight title.

The lone knockdown of the bout came in round three. Rios scored with uppercuts and left hooks, willing Alvarado to the canvas for a nine-count.

Alvarado came in at "Tomato Can" level, in other words just to get paid...At least some "Journey Men" train & give their opponents a run for their money, but Alvarado didn't even do that & to make it worst, in front of his own people. What a disgrace..Props to Rios who DID TRAIN & CAME READY..

Alvarado B I T C H E D out with the old "i can't see excuse" & when his corner didn't want to stop the fight he made sure the Dr. did by saying he saw 4 fingers instead of the 2 the Dr was showing, very POOR ACT of double vision..What a BUM! That's why gotta love fighters like for example Andre Berto that against Guerrero had BOTH EYES SWOLLEN SHUT, NEVER MIND DOUBLE VISION, HE COULDN'T SEE S H I T & fought till the end & NEVER QUIT!

In fairness, Alvarado was copping a beating and eating some massive shots. He probably was seeing double. A hard shot around the temple area can easy knock an eyeball temporarily out of shape - takes 5-10 mins to get back in shape and that's when not still having your head pounded - and it's both disconcerting and difficult to adjust to. (I got heel kicked once in the gym and suffered this.)

always interesting to see how a fighter handles a beating like this. will mile high mikes career continue into a downward spiral or is this a wake up call he needed

I could tell right away that Rios was sharper than usual. He came right out and every thing was working 4 him. Huge props. Alvarado may not have trained his absolute best but it was a weak excuse. He made the weight and didn't appear shot. I think JMM and Rios would make a good scrap. Rios was on a mission and I feel like only a hand full of welter weights could have beaten him last night. And not the pure brawlers. He would crush probably anyone who just sits in the pocket with him. I want to see him fight a well trained Ortiz. Will be great if Ortiz comes with his mind right.

Now that Rios looked this good beating a druggy, Arum can now recycle another Pacquioa-Rios fight. Bobcat's a genius! Matchmaker from hell.

Alvarado is done. He's 34 and not a young 34. Too many miles on the clock, he's physically spent and when he's not dedicated to training on top of that, well he's going to crumble against any credible opponent.

No one has eyes anymore??? Rios beat pinnocchio, he beat a boxer with wooden legs ! Mike has been through so many wars, and a unhealthy lifestyle. Mike is a shot fighter, I could tell from the first 2 minutes, if he gets hit with hard shots he usually resets and starts to box and use his legs. Never would he let Rios just lean on him and swing away - Rios did nothing and who ever top stank puts him in with next will expose his I've been in too many wars body. Sad fight, no one won that one!
