  • Roy Jones Jr. was a 1000x more entertaining than Floyd Mayweather in his prime

Can anybody deny this? I think it's just a straight up fact.

Well, technically it's a subjective opinion, but I'm glad you made this thread. There simply isn't enough discussion of Mayweather in NSB.

    Well done you.

It's more about the entertainment value Roy brought to the table during his prime.

Eh. I never saw that much to be impressed with. Seems like he got more out of antics like putting his hands behind his back before knocking out the one guy or wearing a microphone while he fought some other guy or playing basketball the same day he fought some other guy. When he finally stepped up and took on Tarver, he got jacked. He said after ward "This is what I get for giving the fans what they want." Not the mark of a great fighter who cared about legacy. I mean, he beat a drained James Toney, an over-the-hill Virgil Hill, John Ruiz(who didn't beat John Ruiz?), Montell Griffin(never impressed with him), an over-the-hill Vinny Pazienza, an old Mike McCallum. I give him credit for Trinidad and the first Hopkins fight, but he was way overhyped. Don't forget that Glen Johnson iced him too an Johnson was never known for his power.

He will get in the HOF, but I'm not so sure he deserves it based on accomplishments. Plus, he never even had a jab, which is the most important punch in the sport.

For as boring, unentertaining and cowardice as Mayweather is, there sure are more threads about him than any other fighter out there. Wonder why that is.

Other than Toney and Hopkins, Roy's resume is weak.

Roy was not the same fighter after coming down from Heavyweight, but he still beat Tarver with no energy. Add Tarver to the list that includes Tarver, BHOP, Toney, Trinidad, Lacy, Hill, Griffin (whom beat James Toney twice) Roy also whooped Eric Harding, a fighter who beat Tarver. Roy also gave Julio César González his first loss. While Julio César González is the man who gave Dariusz Michalczewski his first loss. And if you take away that disqualification, Roy would've been 50-0 with 40 KO's before his first real loss. He dominated great fighters and is the first and only fighter that started as a jr middleweight to win the Heavyweight title. There's a reason why Tarver, BHOP & Toney are still fighting, to make sure they have a greater legacy than Roy Jones Jr.
