  • Mike Tyson fought bums before he became HW champ

Tyson fought nothing but C level guys before he KO'd Berbick so maybe we shouldn't be so hard on Wilder for fighitng soft opponents leading up to his title fight.

He still fought way better comp than Wilder.
Jesse Furguson 14-1 (beat Buster Douglas right before)
James Tillis (fought for a world title, lots of exp.)
    Mitch Green 16-1-1
Marvis Frazier 16-1 (fought for a world title)
Jose Ribalta 22-3-1 (Jose fought a game fight)

Wilder is a complete hype job, Tyson was going to fight 40 fights before title shot, then the shot fell in lap, not to mention he was young and he knocked out the champ.
Wilder is built funny (lower body smaller than upper), couldn't ko a guy who was barely fighting and he doesn't throw combos.
Tyson was 15 sparring grown men and beating their ass, Wilder couldn't even KO Charlie Z 160 ass when he hit him on the ground.
Wilder will be forgotten after he loses his paper belt.

He fought some decent tests coming up like Tillis, Fergusson and Ribalta. Tyson also did it over a very short time. Seasoned pros who could give him some rounds/exp. Windmiller has been doing it for 6 years. Windmiller fought a bunch of awful, awful bums to pad his record. Even a fat obese bum like Dustin Nichols put Windmiller on the deck.

A terrible bum like Harold Sconiers put him on his ass. Never compare this stiff to Iron Mike.

Very convincing argument. I am not impressed with Wilder either.

Tyson was 20, Wilder is 29. Tyson still fought guys who has experience and fought for world titles and he has Cus D'amato is his corner.

Wilder started boxing at age 20. He's only been boxing for nine years. I don't compare him to Tyson cause he's obviously never going to be as good as Tyson BUT maybe we shouldn't be so hard on him. It's not like Tyson fought a bunch of straight killers leading up to the Berbick fight. His opponents were quite mediocre.

                And?.

Tyson got a title shot within 2 years after his pro debut.

His pro debut was in 1985 , in 1986 alone he fought 13 times , including Berbick.

Wilder did pretty much the same in 6 years.

His career before his first title was 2 years long, its been six years since Wilders first fight.

And Tyson started boxing in 1979, he had been boxing 2 years less when he won his first title than Wilders 9 years. Tyson fought mediocre opposition until he fought Berbick, Wilder until Stiverne hadn't even come close to mediocre opposition. Mediocre opposition would be praise when describing his pre-title opposition.
