  • How does a boxing contract work anyways?

People talk about boxing contracts but its not very clear to me how it works. Canelo-Kirkland fight is on in May, no mention of a contract, but people think its a go since a few days ago.

Is a contract something like some piece of paper you give to someone to sign and it has a proof of delivery like the post office does, and a time limit to be received and returned?

Who holds the contracts and how does it change hands?

The only differences I know of from a "normal" contract (like agreeing to car payments) is that sometimes the alphabet orgs will oversee a title fight contract as a third party mediator and of course since you're engaging in a sporting competition not trading material goods, the commission has to sanction the fight.

Probably 75% of the fights that are "being finalized" on here never happen so until it's official (contracts signed) take it with a grain of salt.
