  • Comments Thread For: Mikey Garcia: Next Fight is at 140, Likely March or April

There appears to be light at the end of the tunnel for former two-division champion Miguel Angel ‘Mikey’ Garcia, who believes a ring return can come as early as this upcoming spring.

The unbeaten fighting pride of boxing-rich Oxnard, Calif. hasn’t fought since a 12-round points win over Juan Carlos Burgos last January—in fact, one full year this coming Sunday. A planned showdown with Yuriorkis Gamboa last spring eventually fell apart over a dispute on how the available funds would be split.

Top rank has some good talent in and around 140. Mikey Garcia, Terance Crawford, Jesse Vargas, Jose Benavidez. Mikey could fight provodnikov, Herrera, the winner of Rios Alvarado, or Vargas or Benavidez. I'd even like to see him fight pacquiao should the mayweather fight fall through. Garcia and Crawford will be ppv stars by the time pacquiao retires

Jumping straight up to 140 huh? Guess they're gonna build him up for Pac even faster now

China chin. When you hear him you hear 'rattle rattle rattle'

Crawford beats his ass. Lucas knocks him clean out, also Danny.

big fan of mikey, but 140. i dont think he has the size and power to really fend these guys off. any 140 gives him trouble. good luck though.

Garcia refused to fight Gamboa. Is he really going to be willing to fight dangerous opponents at 140? I think he will carefully matched.

Dumb move by Mikey. He gets eaten alive by any Top 10 fighter at 140.

There's 2 or 3 guys at 135 that would beat him too.

The kid's been getting dropped left and right ever since moving up to 130 for ***s sake.

EDIT: Uchiyama beats him at 130.

Hopefully Mikey can handle the weight & size difference at 140. He has always had a technical skill set, so that should help him. It's not like he is only used to overpowering guys. Boxing can use as many players as it can get, let's hope he's not a shell of himself.
