Comments Thread For: Frank Warren Decides To Part Ways With Frankie Gavin

Promoter Frank Warren has today announced that he will not be renewing his management and promotional contracts with welterweight boxer Frankie Gavin.

Mr Warren, who signed Gavin in 2008 and he made his professional debut in 2009, guided him to British, Commonwealth and WBO Intercontinental titles in his 22-fight career.

In addition Mr Warren secured Gavin a hometown European title opportunity that was also a final Eliminator for the WBO World title and also steered him to number one spot in the WBO.

Mr Warren wishes Mr. Gavin all the best in his future career.

I'm sure Matchroom will get him but i wouldn't be surprised if he went to Dave Coldwell either.

Gavin is a decent European level fighter.

But he is never going to be a 'money fighter'.

He just has no presence or charisma outside the ropes.

He doesn't really have any inside the ropes either.

He shouldn't be fighting at Welterweight where he has itty bitty ******* and no power whatsoever.

Not surprised, really. Gavin is nothing special. I'd like to see him give Bradley Skeete a rematch following that robbery in December.

Lacked the desire and work ethic need to really succeed as a pro, which is obviously disapointing because he was a great ameture.

I wondered why Hearn retweeted him the other day.

Great amateur, but no work ethic in the professional game. Could've been a very very good fighter if he applied himself from the get go. He still has the same trainer he had as an amateur.

Sad waste of natural talent. Was first Brit to win a world amateur title and thought he would have it made without need of the dedication that's so necessary in the hard ball arena of pro boxing. Should was due to box at lightweight in the Olympics but didn't make the weight and he should have boxed lightweight (140 at a stretch) in the pros too, especially in this day and age when the weigh in comes the day before and there's a rehydration window before having to actually fight. Too small to excel at elite level against 147 pounders. He will box on, I'm sure, but he's never been prepared to make the appropriate sacrifices and isn't going to change now. Yeah, sad.

Gavin doesn't seem like he's going to reach the top levels....No great loss as far as Im concerned, if he considered himself British I would care a little more, but the Irish thing, like with Fury, Macklin, Lee (?) - Plastic Paddies all - is a little grating. It was the British public that funded their amateur careers, not the Irish.
