  • Comments Thread For: Canelo-Kirkland Close For May 2nd in San Antonio?

Sources close to the situation have told BoxingScene.com that a fight between Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez (44-1-1, 31KOs) and James Kirkland (32-1, 28KOs) is on the verge of being finalized for May 2nd at the Alamadome in San Antonio, Texas.

Alvarez, had hoped to be facing Miguel Cotto on that date before negotiations broke down and the deal was taken off the table over the weekend. Back in 2013, Alvarez drew nearly 40,000 fans as he battled Austin Trout in this venue.

Don't give Kirkland much of a chance but it will be fun while it lasts for sure...

If no Mayweather-Pacquiao, I'll watch this regardless whoever Mayweather fights on that date.

Let's hope he doesn't, he would be doing us all a huge favor if he didn't.
