Comments Thread For: Team Lemieux Responds To GYM Promotion Claims

Following the publication of a press release by Groupe Yvon Michel (GYM) about David Lemieux's file, Eye of the Tiger Management (EOTTM) is obliged to present some clarifications refuting their claims.

David Lemieux is not under contract with Groupe Yvon Michel (GYM). Lemieux's agreement with GYM expired in 2013 and there has never been a verbal or written agreement of a contract renewal between Eye of the Tiger Management and GYM. Eye of the Tiger Management is confident it has met all its obligations in relation to GYM and its contract with David Lemieux and that GYM has no further rights to promote Lemieux's fights. Agreed. Thats the problem with this sport. To many promoters, tv companies and fighters that do not deal with each other.

It's going to court, GYM has a technicality where they might win (long shot). Their claim is there's a bridge when they allowed Eye of the Tiger promotions to become co-promoters. Eye of Tiger then did the Rosado fight and that in effect kicked in a 2 year extension for GYM. Who knows how a judge will rule on that crap. If the Rosado fight had taken place one week later, there'd be no issue... I hope GB just puts the money in escrow and lets Lemieux to continue to fight, otherwise he could be on the shelf past the first half of 2015.

Tony Marinaro tries to resolve the differences between Yvon Michel and Camille Estephan on the rights to boxer David Lemieux.

A Canadian radio station had Yvon Michel (Lemieux's former promoter) and Camille Estephan (Lemieux's manager) on the air and had them break down how and why GYM was challenging Lemieux signing with GB and how GYM thought an extension was activated with the Rosado fight.

Lemieux's contract with GYM expired in Dec. 2013. After that Lemieux continued working with GYM based on a 1-year verbal agreement, where they had the right to match offers, which they did for Guerrero and failed to do for Rosado. They also had another verbal agreement with Estephan in April 2014 to do a joint venture in promoting Lemieux, which is where GYM claims that when Lemieux fought as a main-event on HBO, it activated an extension built into the previously expired contract.

If GYM's claims on Lemieux are hinging on a couple of 'verbal' agreements, I'd say it's clear skies ahead for Lemieux & GB.

LMAO, Talk about desperate. If they didnt even promote him how does that "verbal agreement" stand anyways?
