  • Comments Thread For: Mayweather, Canelo To Go Head To Head on May 2nd?

Unless Floyd Mayweather Jr. (47-0, 26KOs) intends to fight Manny Pacquiao on May 2nd, there is a possibility that Floyd's upcoming fight will go head to head with Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (44-1-1, 31KOs), according to Golden Boy Promotions President Oscar De La Hoya.

Both Mayweather and Canelo are refusing to step away from the lucrative Cinco De Mayo date.

As BoxingScene.com first reported on Saturday, Canelo is exploring his options after Golden Boy was unable to reach an agreement to fight WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto.

Key word is " industry rumours " which means fan forums and speculation as opposed to " insider rumours " which there is none .

Why not throw another propaganda log on the fire .

A 154.5 pound catchwieght? That's a ****ing insult to the sport of this actually goes down. If they make the fight for cottos 160lb belt, that's literally the wbc taking a massive steaming dump on the middleweight division. If cotto wants to price his candy ass out to mayweather again, thats up to him,but he should at least have the dignity to drop the title, and leave it to GGG,who'll actually defend it agaist middlewieghts, and not treat the damn thing like a bargaining chip against 147 and 154 pounders. Sorry for the rant.

Actually, some insiders are convinced Mayweather-Cotto II will happen after the way the Canelo talks played out and the rumors of a rematch in the weeks leading up to that fight.
