Comments Thread For: Wilder Explains The Problems He'll Pose For Klitschko

Besides his feared punching power, WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder (32-0, 32KOs) believes he has a lot of other attributes that will pose some issues for WBA/WBO/IBO/IBF champion Wladimir Klitschko (63-3, 53KOs).

Wilder captured the title on Saturday night with a twelve round unanimous decision over Bermane Stiverne at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Klitschko defends his titles against Bryant Jennings on April 25th at New York's Madison Square Garden. [Click Here To Read More]

I did notice in a few occasions he fights inside, which might indeed cause Wlad some problems, but he is not a devastating short range puncher.

I don't believe he can outbox Wlad, so he would need to go for KO. He is still quite wild when punching and Wlad would exploit that.

Also Wlad's jab is far more superior.

I still think Fury has a much better chance of beating Wlad.

Wilder should avoid Wladimir as long a possible. If he can work on his jab and tighten up his guard, he COULD be a competitive foe.

Still, I see Wladimir dismantling him with relative ease. The only concern is Wilder's power.

          Wilder's advantages

          - Youth
          - Height
          - Speed (Debatable)
          - Can fight inside? Let's give it for the sake of argument, let him prove it

          Klitschko's advantages

          - Power
          - Technical skill
          - Ring IQ
          - Jab

          Equal/hard to judge

          - Chin
          - Stamina

And I'm being very kind to Wilder with that, but at the end of the day Wlad KOs him still.

I actually think Vlad beats Wilder. He has much more experience fighting at this level and has worked with some of the best trainers and conditioning coaches in the world. Both guys are similar in height but Vlad carries much more muscle mass and Probably is the superior ring general.

It'd be great to see wilder bring all the belts back to the US but I'm not sure that he can.

Wilder's height offers him no advantage. He is two inches taller at the most.

What will help him is his reach plus his speed. He does not have to reach to get to Vladimir.

On the bad side vladimir is much bigger. The guy is built like a sentinel. Wilder could win a jab fihht, but if vladimir can find home with his power shots wilder sleeps.

That length alone would bother Wlad. It'd make him uncomfortable and make him want to clinch. Plus that reach will go a ways in negating Wlad's tendency to simply lean away from punches.

Wilder has a chance. I can't believe I'm saying that, because he still isn't that good right now, but his strengths match up with Wlad's weaknesses.

He presents problems for Klitschko no doubt about it. Wlad presents him with even more though. Id like to see him take on Fury first as his experience at this level is still pretty thin, Fury is also a big man, bigger than Wlad so that would help prepare him for the champ.
