Comments Thread For: Stiverne's Coach: I Want Take Wilder Deep, Expose Him

By Thomas Gerbasi - Don House has always been confident in Bermane Stiverne. But how confident is he that the WBC heavyweight champion will successfully defend his title against Deontay Wilder on Saturday night? So confident that he will be on an early morning flight to Boston on Sunday to work as a cutman for that night’s UFC Fight Night event.

“I’ll be there,” he laughs. “6:15. AM.”

So as far as he’s concerned, there will be no need to console his charge after a devastating loss of his title to the unbeaten former Olympic Bronze medalist. Instead, there will be a victory, a victory party, and then enough time to sleep on the cross-country flight.

You may call that the kind of bravado attached to any trainer’s media repertoire leading up to a big fight, but anyone who has known House for any length of time knows that the Las Vegan doesn’t pull punches and doesn’t say anything that he doesn’t believe in the pit of his stomach. That’s cost him some high-profile gigs over the years simply because he’s never been a ‘yes’ man. But on the flipside, if you have House in your corner and he believes in you, he will go through fire with you.

He’s believed in Stiverne ever since he first saw him in the gym in 2005 and was never shy about telling anyone who would listen about him. Nine years later, the Haiti native won a heavyweight championship by beating Chris Arreola via sixth round TKO last May, and even before the opening bell rang that night in Los Angeles, House had started to scout Mr. Wilder, the owner of a frightening 32-0, 32 KOs record. Deep for Wilder is like Round 4. Shouldn't be that hard.

In a perfect world for Wilder, but i have watched some of his fights and he tries to bomb you out, a smart team would have had him practice that strategy fights ago, see with boxing it's about focus and repitition - it's hard to focus and pop that jab out 50+ times a round when the longest you've been is 4 rounds - wilder has huge tree Trunk arms who's to say fatigue doesn't set in - lots of factors going in and with Stiverne you know what you get! Can't go with the unknown -
Lastly Stiverne got under Wilders skin at that final presser, wilder got up there and talked a lot of shyt and stiverne didn't even fully look at him, he just took it in stride, but when stiverne got to the Mike he made wilder show a lot of emotion that was a huge sign that he is not ready - in boxing you have to be able to ontrol your emotions - they will creep up in a fight and get you hurt - so basically like house said he can dish it but he cannot take it..

I was looking at Wilder's face while Stiverne was at the podium, and also after the staredown. He reminded me of the way Ali used to look before a fight - wide, staring eyes and face contorted with emotion.

Ali had the gift of being able to keep thinking tactically while emotionally hyped to the point of hysteria, but he was one of a kind. If Wilder doesn't have that same gift he'd better calm himself down before the fight, or he'll be in trouble.

I bet he does want to give it to him deep judgin by the way they were staring at each other during the press conference lol when stiverne dropped his belt it looked like he was gonna run up and start making out with him lol that being said wilder is a damn machine. He has alot more power, is much taller, has much longer arms and his body looks like hes in impeccable condition compared to stiverne. Wilder is solid muscle and is going to annihalate fat Albert. Wilder is going to be the greatest American heavyweight we've had in a long time and I think might even give klitschko a run for his money.

Stiverne looked the part against Arreola but the way Cris marched right up to him and let his hands go suited just fine. Bermane had good focus, was cool under pressure and his counter punching was accurate and spiteful. If he can find Wilder's chin, expect it to have an effect. But, while Wilder has the same aggressive mindset as Arreola brought, his approach surely won't be the same. With his long levers Deontay can bomb from the outside and even though Stiverne may have prepared mentally for a defensive fight early on he could find he can't reach his man with counters this time and will have to risk going on the front foot more than he would really want to. Really intriguing match.

Good plan. Wilder better be ready.
Saturday he's going to be stumbling round the ring like a new born giraffe.

During FNFs Atlas predicted that Wilder would take Stiverne out in two rounds. That means for you that bet bet the house on Stiverne to win and win big.

The Wilder fans just have that selective memory problem.... forgetting how 2 or 3 of those cans he fought along the way jolted him big time. I'm seeing chicken legs getting dropped hard for the count, mid rounds. It'll probably look a bit like Stiverne/Austin... then Stiverne finally finds his range and starts connecting.

                    Sleepytime Wilder.
