Hi, my name is Kelvyn Travis and I am Audley’s camp co-ordinator. I was in Audley’s corner when he won Olympic gold and I am fortunate enough to be working with him again as a professional. I am out in Miami at present co-ordinating all aspects of the camp so I thought I would write a few words to keep you updated.
Training camp for this fight is based in Miami in order to make use of the excellent area and weather conditions. We will complete a 10 week training programme in preparation for this upcoming fight. During the first month of the programme the focus has been on strength and muscular endurance work with an experienced Miami based coach. Audley has also worked with a new pad man who has also been brought in to help with this camp. Terry, Audley’s brother, is back in camp and involved with the conditioning side of the training.
Audley has begun sparring and it is going very well. We are working with a number of top sparring partners including former Heavyweight title challenger Fres Oquendo, Andre Purlette and Mo Harris with more top names to follow. Audley has also recently sparred with David Haye who is in Miami training for his upcoming title fight in London.
Whilst Audley has been in Miami, he has been in regular contact with his friend Lennox Lewis. Lennox offered to take time out from his busy schedule to come down to the gym to watch Audley train and offer him some valuable advice. Lennox, who is currently based in Miami, has promised to continue to support Audley during his camp.
Lennox isn’t the only highly respected figure to visit Audley during training. Angelo Dundee, the legendary trainer of Muhammad Ali, also visited the gym and was able to offer Audley further advice as he watched him train. Despite Audley’s loss in December, having both Lennox and Angelo coming to the gym and investing their time in him is a huge boost for Audley and a great reassurance that people continue to believe in his ability. It has had a hugely positive effect on training and morale has been raised in camp.
With five weeks to go, I am impressed with what I have seen of Audley’s training so far. He has a real nastiness in him that is a clear indication that he knows just how vital this fight is to his career. We are exactly on schedule and I am happy with what I have seen. He is fully focussed and determined and this is looking like being one of Audley’s best camps that I have been involved with. Dominic Guinn is a very tough opponent and we want to use the immense disappointment of the last fight to positive effect and it looks as if it is working by the way Audley has gone about his training since camp began.
On behalf of Audley and all at A-Force, I wanted to thank you for your continued support and loyalty.
