Comments Thread For: Bernard Hopkins-Carl Froch Rumblings Behind The Scenes

Sources have advised BoxingScene.com that there is interest in staging a fight between former two division champion Bernard Hopkins (55-7-2, 32KOs) and IBF/WBA 'regular' super middleweight champion Carl Froch (33-2, 24KOs).

Hopkins, now 50-years-young, is very interested in fighting again. From what BoxingScene was told, the legal tussle between Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. and promotional firm Top Rank is a major stumbling block in making a deal with Froch for a Las Vegas fight.

I would think if Haymon really wanted to make Chavez-Froch badly, he could use the Mayweather/Pacquiao negotiations as leverage.

I'll be surprised if Froch/Hopkins took place. That's a bad style match-up for Carl and I don't think it would sit well with him to lose to an older version of the man Joe beat.

A no-win fight for Froch. Would the payday even be that good? Doubt it even makes PPV....

The only chance Hopkins has is if Froch decides to throw no more than three punches a round.

Guys, BHOP was figured out years ago. His longevity says more about the standard of fighters and trainers today than any great talent.

I'll remind everyone of his performances against Jermain Taylor. Back then he was considered "shot". But I'll give him credit for being a good (not great) technician who rarely picks an opponent should the risk of danger be too great.

I'm not suggesting that Froch is ATG, either. But he's a sufficiently busy fighter with hard hands and superb fitness. Provided he sets the pace he can't lose, IMO. If he's dumb enough to play straight into Hopkins' hands and throw punches through the mail - he deserves to lose.
