Was Tarver to Roy Jones what Norton was to Ali?

I feel as though this is a fair comparison. What do you guys think?

Somewhat valid...their (KN/MA) fight history didn't really look anything like Jones/Tarver though.

Norton also did more distinct things to Ali to disrupt him...such as jabbing with him and timing a lot of his power shots. Tarver just used his natural size and battered Jones against the ropes in their 1st and 3rd bouts.

i think tarver took advantage of a not in his prime roy jones.

norton fought ali after his layoff but ali was definitely younger than jones was,

because of this, even if ali and jones were on the same level, I think norton deserves more credit than tarver

yeah, that does make sense. like norton really HAD ali's number, while tarver, in a sense got lucky at his timing. perphaps there were others who roy fought earlier in his career, that were probably better than tarver that could have done what tarver did

of course not! norton never exposed ali. both were in their primes when they fought. norton broke ali's jaw in the 1st round of their first fight and went the distance, what are the odds of jones doing that? norton's upset was a one time thing (even though the 3rd fight couldve or shouldve gone to norton) against ali. and neither fighter KOd the other with one punch.

          there is no comparison.

well i think it was someting in tarver's rythm, that he kind of leaned and backed up just enough that roy counldnt counter. i dont think it was something he did on purpose, but it was something that came naturally to him when he fights and roy just couldnt get the hang of it

I think that's a fair assessment. Tarver's height/range factored into that too, but you're probably right about the rhythm. Roy was tentative of being caught on his way in.

roy jones is one of the greatest fighters of all time.

and ali's prime wasnt when he was fighting, a prime ali was the one who fought liston....pre 3rd year layoff.
