    Should I Get a Trainer?

    Should I get a trainer?

I lost 50 lbs in 6 month just by counting calories. Over the past 2 and a half years, I gained it all back.

So I joined a gym for the first time in my life.

I had a meeting with a trainer today. This is what he told me.
    • My body fat is at 28.5%. Based on what I want, he recommends I lose 45 lbs of fat and gain 10 lbs of lean muscle and get down to 16% body fat.
    • I can gain 1 -2 lbs of lean muscle of month, so it would take me 6-12 months to gain 10 lbs of muscle.
    • I should maintain my heart rate between 133 and 153 bpm. Anything over 153, I'll burn muscle vs fat.
    • I will start seeing major results after 4 months.
    • To lose fat, cardio is 10% important, resistance training is 40% and nutrition is 50%
    • He says he does 1 day of cardio only and the other days, he just warms and cools down with cardio and does at least 30 minutes of resistance training.
    • People who lose weight just by cardio, as soon as they stop doing cardio, they gain all the weight back. In contrast, people who lose weight doing resistance training, burn an extra 50 calories a day per lb of muscle. So a person who gains 10 lbs of muscle will burn an extra 500 calories a day just by doing nothing.

The trainer plans are expensive though.
    • (3) 30 minutes trainer sessions per week comes out to $360 a month for a 12 month commitment.
    • (2) 30 minutes trainer sessions per week comes out to $260 a month for a 12 month commitment.
    • (1) 30 minutes trainer sessions per week comes out to $140 a month for a 12 month commitment.
    • (2) 30 minutes trainer sessions per month comes out to $75 a month for a 12 month commitment.

    Any feedback would be appreciated.
