Comments Thread For: De La Hoya Gives Take on Mayweather-Pacquiao Speed

Golden Boy Promotions President Oscar De La Hoya gave his take on the "speed vs. speed" battle between welterweight champions Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao.

De La Hoya, a five division world champion, faced both fighters in the tail end of his career. Mayweather won a close twelve round split decision over De La Hoya in 2007 and Pacquiao stopped him within eight rounds in 2008.

A few years ago, De La Hoya would tabbed Pacquiao as the quicker fighter, but he feels the Filipino star has slowed down since he faced him.

This is the same recycled nonsense with a simple answer...Floyd is quicker 1 punch at a time..Manny throws faster combos....But Floyd throws more thought out combos...Manny is and has always been the more raw aggressive fighter while Floyd is the more logical thought out fighter..Manny puts more into his punches then Floyd.

It's pretty obvious that a few years ago... Manny would have destroyed Floyd... Manny can't get in and out with the same speed and he'll be hit by Floyd's counters now, so Floyd basically waited out Pacquiao at the right time although Manny is still a threat if he trains for speed and he can handle Floyd's power - Manny wins..if Not Floyd wins...

Im pretty confident you see a guy beating slow drained fighters and shot fighters and think the speed difference in those fights is going to translate the same against a prime really fast defensive wizard , Manny would be schooled by Floyd 10 yrs ago 5 yrs ago and now .

The trouble is you see a guy beat A and think its going to be the same against B , this is called fan vision which builds hype . .

Four years ago, Pac would have sprained his ankle chasing Floyd and still tko the money man, now, Floyd UD Pac. 11 to 1!
