he clearly protected floyd. he let him hold and elbow maidana constantly to create space to punch. holding and using elbows were part of a strategy that helped floyd win. the couple fouls maidana did were out of frustation(because floyd kept cheating) and in no way helped him win the fight while floyd's fouls allowed him to win the fight. big difference.

that's true but not all fouls are equal. floyd's fouls were part of a fight strategy that helped him win. the couple fouls out of frustration didn't help maidana win. if weeks was a good ref he wouldn't have let floyd do that. not punishing maidana really didn't matter. the only thing that mattered was letting floyd fight his way and he did that.

I know there are a lot of fights where KOs are expected that go the distance, but this fight is not going the distance. That would be the biggest upset imaginable in this fight.

In my opinion Tony Weekes is one of the best referees today. He called Maidana- Mayweather 1 straight down the middle let both fight their fight. This drew Floyd's ire. He was used to referees protecting him like Joe Cortez against Hatton. So for the rematch with Maidana Floyd hired Cortez II in Kenny Bayless. I had always rated Bayless as a referee until his blatantly bias performance protecting Floyd in the rematch. Bayless career was tarnished by this performance Whether it was $$$ or pressure who knows but it has certainly affected his credibility
