  • Comments Thread For: Nonito Donaire Returns on 3/28 at Mall of Asia Arena

Boxing fans eager to see the ring return of five division world champion Nonito "The Filipino Flash" Donaire won't have to wait too long as ALA Promotions and the giant broadcast network ABS-CBN are putting up a blockbuster fight card at the Mall of Asia Arena on March 28.

Adding luster to the Donaire return will be World Boxing Organization light flyweight champion Donnie "Ahas" Nietes who will defend his title in the main event against an unnamed opponent as of now, in a voluntary title defense.

Sucks for Nietes/Rodriguez jnr.... cool for Fajardo... but I'd rather see him fight Nietes.

Great news. The fact that we get Flash and Ahas on the same card is beyond satisfying. I hope Nietes can bag up a decent name, I really want to see him unify before moving up to 112.

Wasn't ALA disappointed with Chihuas' performance against Fajardo? I think he is rematching in order to impress and lock down a fight with Nietes later on this year.

Side note, I just thought of this. If Milan Melindo beats Mendoza and Nietes gets past Rodriguez(if they fight, fingers crossed), do you think ALA would throw both of their world champions in the same ring to unify? Or would Nietes vacate the WBO strap and move up to Flyweight in order for Milan to possibly become a unified champion by fighting for the vacant slot or hunting down the new champ. Just a thought.

If the winners of both match ups face each other... we would get a real treat, regardless of what side comes out victorious. Mix matching between those 4 names will always produce fireworks.

Yeah he seems cornered but considering his age and the fact that he has lost to both fighters dramatically, I don't think he'll hunt for a rematch with either. Nonito is slowing down, his time at the top is pretty much over. Perhaps he could muster up a handful of great performances but I highly doubt he'll return to the top of the mountain. Which is completely fine, regardless of what Rigotards and other people whom dislike Nonito like to say he accomplished so much and gave us a spectacular career.

I could see him taking claim to a belt at 122 but it would have to be from the weakest champion around. One thing that will always keep Nonito as a threat is his murderous left hand, so the possibility of winning will always exist. However it would just be a very slim chance for him to win against a defensively sound and younger champion/contender.
