by David P. Greisman - The promotional earthquakes that hit the headlines late last week and reverberated through the weekend weren’t completely surprising.

We’d been waiting on the outcome of a number of stories and rumors. Oscar De La Hoya and the former CEO of De La Hoya’s nicknamesake company, Golden Boy Promotions, had split last year. De La Hoya had pursued $50 million in damages from Schaefer for allegedly not looking out for the best interests of Golden Boy.

While Schaefer ran the company — while De La Hoya was absent or dealing with his personal struggles or in rehab — fighters who had been signed with Golden Boy had their deals run out but still fought underneath the banner, all while being advised by the powerful Al Haymon.

Haymon has been on a signing spree, particularly over the past year, and is expected to have a series of shows beginning on NBC Sports Network and the flagship NBC station beginning in March.

Andre Ward had been in an extended legal battle with promoter Dan Goossen, who passed away late last year. Rap icon Jay-Z had extended his Roc Nation Sports reach into boxing and put out offers on a fight (Peter Quillin vs. Matt Korobov) and fighters (Deontay Wilder, Keith Thurman). Roc Nation had been reported to be negotiating to acquire Gary Shaw Productions. Meanwhile, there had been rumors that the inactive super middleweight champion could have his contract with Goossen bought out and wind up with Roc. [Click Here To Read More]

That had nothing to do with that Shafer/ Haymon were stabbing him in the back while he was in rehab if anyone is at fault it's Oscar for snorting Coke and being ****** while Shafer was calling Haymon hey sign him he's at rehab

Do you not remember 2013? GBP was leagues ahead of the comp with their stacked cards and it benefitted all parties involved, GBP, Schaefer, haymon and the fighters and all that came to a stop when oscar fired schaefer, after having lunch with Bob..although i do believe it was oscars fault, i believe you and i have a different perspective

Nope. Shaefer and Haymon were dealing behind Oscar's back, singing fighters to single fight promotions and actual contracts with Haymon. The two were trying to steal the company out from under Oscar, when Schaefer was supposed to be keeping GBP running with the best of interests. Not his own personal agenda with a shrewd parasite orchestrating these moves. It wasn't until Oscar was presented with a deal to sign over his company, while in rehab, that he found out something was wrong in his company. This lead to the discovery of what has been going on behind his back and the reason Oscar fired Schaefer and any staff that helped him.

More of this would have came to light in the Main Events vs GBP/Haymon lawsuit. However, once Bernard signed to fight Kovalev, Main Events could no longer pursue the suit as the main claim was the contract violation and negative financial impact that the loss of the Stevenson match up would have produced. Now that Hopkins vs Kovalev was happening, Main Events got their man the big money fight that was supposed to happen.

GBP will be fine. They have a good relationship with all the major TV networks and promoters in and out of the country. They also signed these new prospects that promise to capture our eyes.

As for Schaefer, Haymon and Mayweather, they have proven to be nothing but un-loyal, untrustworthy business men and scammers. They have been exposed by their corrupted ways and dirty deeds which have followed Haymon from the past. Could this be way he doesn't show himself to the public or give interviews. Despite his years of hiding and lurking in the shadows of boxing, he surface only to be found by Jay Z who is not backing Dow and is putting up a fight which he can afford to win.

Is ROCNATION serious about boxing. By joining forces with GSP and signing fighters like Ward, they demonstrate how serious they are.

The problem is too much of a good thing is bad and too much of a bad thing is bad for business.
