Matthysse has the WBC Silver title, which places him into position for a shot at the WBC title. He's not going to fight an eliminator for the WBO against an opponent the caliber of Provodnikov. His insistence on a Danny Garcia rematch is going to force Garcia to move up to Welterweight, have Haymon distract Matthysse with a title shot for another organization/lucrative fight, or give him a rematch.

Comments Thread For: Crawford To Leapfrog Over Matthysse To WBO Shot

Although Chris Algieri and Lucas Matthysse are the top two contenders under the WBO at 140-pounds, WBO lightweight champion Terence Crawford is already in position to fight for the vacant WBO junior welterweight title.

After his last defense of the WBO title at 135-pound, Crawford announced that he was moving up in weight. Matthysse, who is ranked at number two, is pushing to get a shot at the belt, but WBO President Francisco Varcarcel says Crawford is ahead of him in the line.

Ruslan-Lucas seems a bit too good to be true.

There's a lot of politics swirling around this belt for a dream fight like that to come off.

WBO hate haymon lol connect the Dots ppl, this has Arum all over it. WBO is always in favor of TopRank. ****** what they did to Chris. Now another TopRank fighter is at front of the line, as good as Crawford is he should fight at 140 first before being rank 1. WBO is a joke anyways, Matthysse should enter that WBC tournament instead.

                That is probably true, sadly.

An Algeri/Crawford fight and Matthysse/Provodnikov fight is great. Gives to good fight and best of the 4 should get the WBO title. Personally I'm looking forward to it. Not as interesting as Matthysse/Broner or Provodnikov/Broner but it will be exciting without a doubt.

How does a guy not ranked leapfrog a guy who is? So if you hold a wbo belt in any other division you basically hold an invisible ranking over any non title holder in any weight class

                    That's ****ed up
