I think he completely failed Linares, and went about the complete wrong strategy for his fights. He tries to make everyone fight like Manny Pacquiao. Make them depend on using long aggressive combos, even when they have great feet and hand speed like Linares. He did not play to Linares strengths at all! That is why Roach is a poor trainer. He just happened to find Pacquiao who fit his style of fighting perfectly.

Not everyone has Pacs workrate, and not everyone needs to. Yet he made everyone fight like Pac.

But when you so painfully, and obviously fail your fighters, you cannot be a great coach.
Roach was a bad fit for Linares. Linares is a boxer with a glass jaw and paper skin. That's not a good match for a trainer who emphasizes offense like Roach.

You could say the same thing about Virgil Hunter. Hunter just happened to find Khan, who was a good fit for him. His best fighter is Ward, and Ward is the kind of fighter who would be successful no matter who trained him.

I like him. I wish he'd fight more often though.

Everybody knows Canelo's the one in charge in his traing camp. He takes breaks and trains whenever he wants. That wouldn't be the case if he was with Roach. Roach would be fully in charge and he would make Canelo train to the fullest, no shortcuts.

There's a reason why Roach's fighters are always in tremendous shape.
Didn't he allow Chavez Jr. to do whatever he wanted with him? Training in his living room, scheduling 1 am training sessions with Roach and not even showing up for them?

I would rather see Nacho with Canelo to be honest, but Canelo and Roach would be a good fit as well... but Roach already has a lot of fighters that he's training including Cotto, an opponent that Canelo will hopefully be facing later this year.

They are no longer working together. He didn't let him get away with it he told him to **** off. I doubt he could dump him in the middle of training camp, they probably had a signed contract and he couldn't.
