  • Comments Thread For: Maidana's Adviser on The Separation From Golden Boy

The boxing world was buzzing when news broke on Friday that Golden Boy Promotions and longtime business partner Al Haymon were going their separate ways.

A large portion of Haymon's stable was fighting under Golden Boy, but many of those fighters were not contractually bound to the company.

The terms of their separation were not revealed, but many of Golden Boy's biggest names (or at least the names which headlined their cards in recent years) are leaving with Haymon - like Danny Garcia, Adrien Broner, Deontay Wilder, Robert Guerrero, Keith Thurman, Errol Spence, Peter Quillin, Danny Jacobs and even Marcos Maidana. Only four of Haymon's fighters will remain with Golden Boy, because those fighters have actual promotional contracts with Oscar De La Hoya's company.

Not just Khan was Oscar's favourite, also Ortiz, Morales, Soto Karass and López, were supposed to beat Chino, you could tell from De la Hoya's face during and after those fights...

I don't know man but how can Oscar and Golden Boy let this happen?

Al Haymon basically mooches off Golden Boy for a bunch of years and now since Haymon has enough $$$ he starts his own thing with is fine by me but I hope Oscar and Golden Boy will get something out of this.

Always love Maidana but since he tasted that Mayweather sweepstakes, he won't be the same. The Maidana who showed up for the Mayweather rematch was just some rich Argentinian who isn't hungry anymore.

There's no more loyalty in boxing, I hope all the Haymon fans are right about him for boxing's sake.

I got the same feeling - he lacked hunger in the 2nd fight. He landed the punch he needed to and didn't follow up. Floyd's legs were gone for a couple of minutes and he was still able to win that next round (and the fight). Maidana is one of my favs too, but that was a bad sign. Hope he can still be the same fierce fighter after that
