Froch is pretty much an unknown to the casuals in the states and chavez jr has lost most of his following by being a spoiled lazy inactive bum. This fight will tank on ppv. It will do much better overseas in froch's hometown.
Chavez Jr's fight against Vera drew the highest ratings on US television in 2014. Higher than Golovkin-Rubio which had the advantage of Donaire on the undercard.

Depends what you define as "tank".
Which was almost a year ago on a non ppv card. Froch/Chavez is a good scrap but not ppv worthy.

What does that matter? You have no basis to say that his popularity dropped. He fought one time last year against a pretty **** opponent with no really big names on the card and still pulled the highest TV ratings.
It may not be PPV in your eyes but it obviously is to HBO and that's what counts.

Chavez Jr. fought thrice in 2012 (twice on cable), they were the #1 and #3 rated fights in the US (http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/boxing...6022--box.html). He did 475K as the A-side in his one and only PPV appearance.

Yes and his stock has since fallen. Fans arent even concerned that he hasnt been fighting. Canelo has stole most of his mexican fanbase.
We live in an era where hype trumps accomplishment.
We now have guys like kovalev who can challenge legit belt holders without havhaving to do anything. Regardless that Stevenson got his belt by going through the rankss and through the champs.
We now have GGG who is calling out stars, legitimate a level comp after accomplishing nothing at all.
It seems we didn't learn our lesson with Jeff lacey and Lucian Bute.
Maybe after these two people will smarten up.
Stevenson never fought a single rated contender at 168, let alone 175 before he fought Dawson. Kovalev smashed a top three contender before he ever so much as got a sniff of a title shot.
You're criticising Golovkin for not fighting anyone good, all the while criticising him for wanting to fight said good fighters.
obviously froch fans would much rather her fight chavez than GGG. The money froch would get would be prety similar due to him getting a bigger share v GGG and a smaller one v chavez but obviously chavez is a much easier target than GGG.
it's fair enough I won't complain over froch v Chavez, froch deserves a decent payday in a fight he should win to close out his career, but lets not pretend it's something it's not ... it's the easy option.
He may be "keeping it real" but this is a sad admission as far as being a competitor goes. Where is the competitive drive?
It is but it's the same thing that everyone is doing without coming out and saying they are doing exactly that. The two fighters he mentioned have also done the same in the past.

I don't care what he makes against Chavez or GGG, Personally I would rather him fighting GGG but he has earn the right at this stage of his career to do what he feels secures his family financial life. He has fought almost everyone, paid his dues with short money, fighting in people's backyard etc so yea making more money against Chavez with minimal danger on paper seems the logical fight for him if I was in his shoes.
