Comments Thread For: Roc Nation, Gary Shaw Merger Deal is Complete

BoxingScene.com has been advised by promoter Gary Shaw that a deal has been finalized to merge his company, Gary Shaw Productions, with the boxing division of Roc Nation Sports, a sports management and promotional company which was founded by rapper Shawn "Jay-Z" Carter in 2013.

Shaw, who founded his company in 2002, will head Roc Nation's boxing division.

Roc Nation Sports, which announced their intentions to enter the boxing market last year, will stage their first event on Friday night from the Madison Square Garden Theater in New York City. Fox Sports 1 will televise.

Very interesting move by Roc Nation. Definitely a move to quickly build their stable and credibility. Let's see what other moves they got planned for 2015

Gary was one of the worst promoters in boxing, however he's also the best talent scout. Roc Nation handling the promotions side with Gary looking for fighters could be a pretty potent combo.

That is one way to break into the boxing promotion business. Smart move by Roc Nation that will benefit all parties. Shaw doesn't have any huge names on his roster, but Roc Nation can still do a lot with mid-level talent while building their roster.

I think Roc Nation will be good for boxing, especially if they give us competitive matchups. I would rather watch a competive, evenly matched fight between two mid-level fighters like the ones Shaw has than watch a mismatch between a world champion and a journeyman, which is pretty much all we were given in 2013.

Roc Nation becoming a serious outfit now and doing it the right way. No under the table dealings and shady business moves to steal the company like some folks we know.

It would be foolish for Roc Nation to throw away their undefeated HW without trying to build him up first.

roc nation will win Jennings vs stiverne/wilder purse bid. hence more money fir Jennings this way maybe, especially if Wilder wins fight.
