    Joe Louis is sickly overrated

    Joe Louis...

He was the best for his time. He was a legend. I respect him a lot and this should in no way be seen as any kind of hate against him.

But people put this guy in their top 10 lists of best boxers ever... It's absurd. He had a very weak resume and I really can't imagine him even going half the distance against guys like Ali, Tyson, Foreman, Klitschko, Lewis, Holyfield, etc. etc. etc. etc..... It's just not realistic and he gave us no reason to believe otherwise.

I got nothing but love for Louis, he was the best in his time, but boxing has evolved. When Deontay Wilder beats Stiverne, even he will have a better resume than Louis and that's being realistic (except if Wilder loses, of course).

Give Louis the props he deserves, but don't go into some kind of nostalgic worship. He has proven nothing to make him enter the top lists of best boxers ever. You're harming his legacy by disappointing people when they research his resume with too high expectations.

Besides, look how stiff he is. If Walcott had such an easy time hitting him over and over again, he wouldn't last 1 round against Mike Tyson.

I totally agree. Louis had huge impact both as an American fighter (see rematch victory versus German Max Schmeling) as an African-American fighter. He had skills and power, but not speed, and not much of a resume.

He simply didn't beat great fighters. I'm not sure he would have beat Marciano even on his best day.

Prime Louis vs. Prime Marciano would be an exciting fight. I would be 55-45 on Marciano winning, it's hard to say. I respect them both, I'm just objective.

But yeah, Louis is just that, a legend. But not even in the top 50 of best fighters ever. Even Joe Frazier would beat Louis.

Even Joe Frazier? You make it sound like you said John Ruiz. Lol.

No shame being a lesser fighter to Joe Frazier

A ridiculous notion. Louis was a great heavyweight and a very skilled one at that. Not the greatest heavyweight wise of size or power but his mix of skill and athleticism made him a monster.

I'm a huge Marciano fan and I do believe if Louis was in his prime it would have been a much closer fight. In fact, Louis may have been one of the few that could have KO'ed Marciano.

Louis resume is much better than most admit in fact I believe in the beginning before he took out all the heavyweight greats, was one of the greatest heavyweight resumes. If anything, he is one of the most underrated heavyweight champs in history.

Yeah he's on Deontey Wilders level.

He only defended the undisputed HW title like 26 straight times and held it for 12 years.

Even the so called bum if the mth club were mostly ranked in the top HWs by
                  Ring magazine.
