Why did people bash the Pacquiao Rios fight so much, ignoring the circumstances?

Rios is around a similar level as Maidana, it's just that people hype Maidana because he beat an overrated blown up 147lber in Broner and couldn't even knock him out. This guy also got shut out by Devon Alexander for crying out loud. Rios would have probably beaten Broner and probably can beat him now.

the problem was you cant charge 70 dollars for come back/tune up fights.

pac/rios should have been on regular hbo the way jones/Johnson was after roy got knocked out.

plus if you remember correctly, Alvarado should have got the shot at pac because he had just beat rios.

I didn't really mind that they picked Rios and not Alvarado. Alvarado would have been just as much of a no hoper. More of one actually because Rios at least had the granite chin.

As for why it was a PPV... probably because if it hadn't been, people would have thought "wow, Manny is not even a PPV fighter anymore? He has fallen this far?"

Same reason Canelo vs Angulo was a PPV. Putting Canelo on PPV is a great way to convince the public that he's a PPV figher.

That's what bothered me about the fight, Top Rank didn't do right by boxing and award the winner the shot.

Then again, I suppose they could argue Rios and Pac were both coming off losses, but we all know it was about money and Rios the more marketable name.

I had no problem with Rios Vs Pac, due that he is coming off a KO.

But Pac Vs Algeri was worse than Pac Vs Rios with Pac not coming off a loss, thats how bad Pac Vs Algeri was.

Algeri had power comparable only to Paulie Malignaggi, and people acted as if Pac couldn't get pass that feather fisted jab.

The Rios fight was acceptable given the circumstances. People have come back from losses and had their comeback fights against fighters well below the level of Rios.

It never felt Rios could win and his style was made for Manny but still, i had no complaints. Hindsight is 20/20 but at the time nobody knew if Manny was the same after such a bad KO, or if his chin has been completely cracked.

The Algieri fight was a joke though, there was really no defending that one. If he fights Vargas then Arum should be ashamed for making it and Pacquiao should be ashamed for not having the balls to try and stop arum for making these fights.

Call me crazy but I was mightily impressed with Pac's performance against Rios. I never thought Pac could move and technically box that way. He was very slick.

I personally like boxing display of skills than just brawling, all balls to the wall. Although Rios is not an A, elite fighter, that performance of Pacquiao, for a return fight, made me respect him more.

I would love to see Pac fight like that more and more.
