Unless Haymon was Georges Carpentier's manager I don't think you can pin it on him.

Im pretty sure this term existed before (remember Mike Tyson hype), Al Haymon just takes it to another level. Most of Al Haymon Fighters are hype jobs.

Al Haymon came from Music Business. Most Superstar Singers today sucks at singing live and obviously hype jobs (Katy Perry, Justin Bieber, Nicky Minaj etc.). Maybe he will use that as strategy to create boxing superstars. Multiple Mike Tyson in the making.

I first heard it on this boxing board and I am really sick of it. Some fighters who get talked about a lot like Canelo, Matthysse , Kovalev and GGG get labeled hype jobs by fans who don't like them. They aren't fakes or hypejobs with someone making them seem better than they are. They are damn good fighters with many good wins who deserve all the praise they are getting.

I don't think that strategy will work in boxing because they have to fight live and if they can't fight they will get their ass kicked. Broner for instance may be sort of a hype job but he can fight and most of Haymon's fighters can fight some as well.

It worked with Mike Tyson. He became superstar fighting low level fighters, but when he fights elite level fighters he lost.

Fighting Bums and tomato cans and dominating them (Danny ko Salka) can make you superstar just like Mike Tyson did (0ne round ko). It may not worked to all al Haymon fighters but it could probably worked on some.

Now - Questionable Elite Level Fighters carefully choosing his opponents, fighting bums and tomato can, preserving "0" loss makes you superstar.

Of course you need personality too to become a superstar.

That is why it's rare for bad singers to sing on live (Katy Perry is always dancing in her concert instead of singing). She's a singer not a dancer.

Questionable Elite Fighters rarely fight the best, to avoid being exposed and not the being best in the world of boxing
