Well, when the second fight happened, Pacquiao wasn't a huge star yet. Also, after the first bout, which ended in a draw, there was always a big demand for a rematch especially in the Mexican crowd. When the third bout happened (Pacquiao was a big star by this time), I think they thought they could bring Marquez up to welterweight like Mayweather and finally beat him. That ended up backfiring on them, and the result was another disputed decision. The fourth fight then made sense financially as Top Rank had a limited stable for Manny.

pac wanted an immediate rematch after the first fight because he was robbed of a win (one judge scored the first round 7-10 instead of 6-10 for pac).

third fight wasn't really necessary since pac won the 2nd fight. but i guess pac wanted to more clearly without a doubt in anyone's mind beat marquez.

pac gave marquez the 4th fight because he wasn't satisfied with how the third fight ended and all the reaction behind it. so he again wanted to try and secure a clear without a doubt in anyone's mind win.

Pacquiao is an elite fighter and he is supposed to fight tough dangerous opponents. He is trying to fight Mayweather now. Pacquiao has been fighting dangerous fighters and that helps his popularity and makes him money. When he fights safe easy fighters like Algieri he loses popularity and credibility and makes less money.

Why are you too lazy to spell Freddie is the more appropriate question.

Is it really rocket science? They select the best fight available for Pacquiao that can be made! Until Pacquiao kills Marquez, Marquez will always fit this bill...unless he moves to Al Haymon! Pacquiao does not operate on the principle of avoidance.

Canelo-Pacquiao could be made. But Pacquiao who is the same weight as Mayweather on fight night don't want to fight above 147.

pac is just too small and canelo is too big. only way a pac vs canelo fight is possible is at a 150-152lb catchweight and canelo isn't doing that anymore (he can barely even make 154). so no the fight can't be made.

plus pac is a former flyweight champion. how many more weight classes does he need to climb?
